About Me

Hi, I’m Doctor Alex, a UK-trained doctor with six years of experience working in Medical and Emergency departments across the UK and Australia. I also work as an Expedition Medic, supporting teams in some of the most remote and challenging environments on the planet, from dense jungles to high-altitude treks

Working in these settings has taught me how to act fast, stay calm, and make decisions under pressure. In the wilderness, accidents and emergencies can strike at any time. But back in hospitals, it was a different story: most patients weren’t there because of sudden accidents — they were struggling with chronic diseases. Amazingly, around 70% of these conditions are preventable worldwide.

Most chronic health problems don’t appear overnight, and they don’t disappear with quick fixes or a handful of pills. That’s why I now specialise in lifestyle medicine.

Lifestyle medicine is an evidence-based approach that uses sustainable behavioural changes to prevent, manage, and even reverse chronic disease. Yet despite its potential, lifestyle medicine isn’t fully integrated into everyday healthcare. I believe it’s an approach that should underpin every branch of medicine, from emergency care to family practice.

After years in emergency medicine, I realised that while I could treat crises, the greatest impact comes from preventing problems before they reach the hospital. That’s why I’m planning to train as a GP, where I can work closely with people over time, help them make lasting changes, and bring this focus on prevention and long-term health into everyday medical care.

Beyond my medical practice, I create health content as Ask Doctor Alex on YouTube and Instagram, where I explore the science behind wellness trends, bust common health myths, and share clear, practical health tips.
